As requested by Type Jo Negative of PCRD, here is a quick and simple tutorial that will make wrist bands that your jam refs will love! I made some for my league because there was always a scramble before the bout when the Head Referee asked me for bandanas of each color for the jam refs. I made a set for our league and after bouting against a nearby league, they commissioned a set. They are quick, simple, and cheap!<br><br>
Supplies/Tools:<br>
- Sewing Machine<br>
- Scissors<br>
- Fabric<br>
- 2" Wide Sewable Velcro<br>
- Scissors<br>
- Iron (optional)<br>
- Cutting Mat, Rotary Cutter, Ruler (optional)<br><br>

<i>note: I didn't have any velcro since I used the last of it when I made a set for someone else. For this tutorial I used some bright silver fabric, so we'll just pretend it is velcro.</i><br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwHkQPflCg7YAAvGSZ1bonlyaEBg_xrwWv2wh5ECuEERuBM9KKKUzHRB7DjUUTFsQ0m4vk7mjgiFC6THeSU0rVeOU3HIne3eJXpzIgwvyjhqCEghELpMG2kiCwQ_dDgydU13efNMWI_zYj/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwHkQPflCg7YAAvGSZ1bonlyaEBg_xrwWv2wh5ECuEERuBM9KKKUzHRB7DjUUTFsQ0m4vk7mjgiFC6THeSU0rVeOU3HIne3eJXpzIgwvyjhqCEghELpMG2kiCwQ_dDgydU13efNMWI_zYj/s320/002.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Cut the fabric to 12x6" (you might want to measure your league's main jam ref's wrist while he or she is wearing a wrist guard to make sure you don't make it too small or large!)<br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLGCP1pGKTezP08XscpmSz_fDED30yRJhTogUmxYBk4GlGpc1GMeRxfvNQbxy95BjOXNq3Ppi1tiCmwOnS8xubU7LaCPWIqoWma1xS8kL4QKjoOi8DBsge-5L5ULjeWSng-No1lkKJyn-u/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLGCP1pGKTezP08XscpmSz_fDED30yRJhTogUmxYBk4GlGpc1GMeRxfvNQbxy95BjOXNq3Ppi1tiCmwOnS8xubU7LaCPWIqoWma1xS8kL4QKjoOi8DBsge-5L5ULjeWSng-No1lkKJyn-u/s320/003.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Once you have your piece cut out, fold it inside out and hotdog style. The green dashes show where you will be sewing<br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbx__Zh7DSbC7aPXxhbiVOJnnotyGzhV40SZJK2_o2OhTgJuMjXid0cGBem9clV8QhroxYGj4sb_6m2xVqnn-0iCOtEh7gwPVy4lMbr8wBN8m2F6gabrVvV0jBkvBn4mRZCFWTWZTtHNtx/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbx__Zh7DSbC7aPXxhbiVOJnnotyGzhV40SZJK2_o2OhTgJuMjXid0cGBem9clV8QhroxYGj4sb_6m2xVqnn-0iCOtEh7gwPVy4lMbr8wBN8m2F6gabrVvV0jBkvBn4mRZCFWTWZTtHNtx/s320/005.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Again, make sure it is inside out and sew it together (leaving the top open). Once you've sewn it together, turn it back right side out.<br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpHiUt8dy4PKMqLR4GSAZmEEUL3446ArP6yDvhYUxDpS-ulvt7PsIpOa10RL3yHggHPJ0tOphmalz3ZQayh8S0gTyzQorHUPwHlxxnXBr7rTyW30kvrgUW5S93SYdqbZpWgPsT95B4Ttk1/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpHiUt8dy4PKMqLR4GSAZmEEUL3446ArP6yDvhYUxDpS-ulvt7PsIpOa10RL3yHggHPJ0tOphmalz3ZQayh8S0gTyzQorHUPwHlxxnXBr7rTyW30kvrgUW5S93SYdqbZpWgPsT95B4Ttk1/s320/011.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Fold the open edges to the inside of the wrist band.<br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo0epyoocRijpHxeuzUcqNideTV_nvFANaneMs6xEmRxYO7uBbmNzlMJzctpKgibLcZtHyTN7FRZ2Tfvo7Q8m0qHRJApczScneHErmXhNtw3JHg7Kal88j2xtBLlorKVkSHHxMalX0R2-q/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo0epyoocRijpHxeuzUcqNideTV_nvFANaneMs6xEmRxYO7uBbmNzlMJzctpKgibLcZtHyTN7FRZ2Tfvo7Q8m0qHRJApczScneHErmXhNtw3JHg7Kal88j2xtBLlorKVkSHHxMalX0R2-q/s320/017.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Once I have folded the open end in, I like to iron it to make sure that those edges stay down. This is optional, but it makes it much easier.<br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRY639QraVSEpNEg3hIOAH-13rQsWdKHPGhiwxdfrEou5v_YI0amtbii5CTZUaQkwotCaIVHkMoRNbDeFGnZO62hpNmMxu1CBkntvx-CFvruUOw355yxFtI_HrYfd_ms2uvRHX1Ha9dR5L/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRY639QraVSEpNEg3hIOAH-13rQsWdKHPGhiwxdfrEou5v_YI0amtbii5CTZUaQkwotCaIVHkMoRNbDeFGnZO62hpNmMxu1CBkntvx-CFvruUOw355yxFtI_HrYfd_ms2uvRHX1Ha9dR5L/s320/018.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Sew the line closed.<br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFQsGky9bHMIH81brRBfGAHnSWc1aDIl-HxQm9hbaFrruj42cOcvjJYEe7evB0SzEoEcbDJGBr_T2GaJ6fsfmWj31oJudRwvuFeU32HZnBx6Q0LUSspILW6oYe50pb9k2pcXsPpa-C7nVv/s1600/019.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFQsGky9bHMIH81brRBfGAHnSWc1aDIl-HxQm9hbaFrruj42cOcvjJYEe7evB0SzEoEcbDJGBr_T2GaJ6fsfmWj31oJudRwvuFeU32HZnBx6Q0LUSspILW6oYe50pb9k2pcXsPpa-C7nVv/s320/019.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Now you're ready to add the velcro. Take one side (doesn't matter if it's the hook or the loop side, just make sure you're only sewing ONE of them on) and place it near the top of your wrist band. Sew the velcro about a quarter of an inch in.<br><br><br>
<center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFcCcAiUdHA9jtH9ttbAvN6pddbIDyZ_UKeSGyUHKv4siud9Lf2QxnfYs2OC7Nvoi82fitViFXNzr5MwDLHC-5q3dAANsWB6WLNOBYIJr7UcIZlqzqGy2wn9bF_0uENtxosOsw3OGoRo2C/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFcCcAiUdHA9jtH9ttbAvN6pddbIDyZ_UKeSGyUHKv4siud9Lf2QxnfYs2OC7Nvoi82fitViFXNzr5MwDLHC-5q3dAANsWB6WLNOBYIJr7UcIZlqzqGy2wn9bF_0uENtxosOsw3OGoRo2C/s320/020.JPG" /></a></center><br><br>
Sew the next piece of velcro on the <b>opposite end</b> and <b>opposite side</b> of where you placed the last piece of velcro.<br><br><br>

You should have to flip one side over to see both velcro bits.<br><br><br>

I made wrist bands for my team and all of the teams we would be playing this season. Jam refs love them because you don't have to tie them like a bandana, they're less constricting than those spandex glove covers, super visible to jammers and NSOs, and easy to switch during half-time. <br><br><br>

After I finished <a href="http://shaesrandommusings.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-y-front-quilt.html">my y-front quilt</a> I wanted to create a quilt using my own patterns, so I started designing. The very first pattern I ever did was <a href="http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/ofenjen/hppaper_lj/challenge2/potionbottle_sample_lezlishae.jpg">this potion bottle</a>, so I used that as the starting point of my quilt. I sort of liked how it looked, but I wanted the bottle to be all the way around the potion. I tossed around several ideas on what I wanted the bottles to look like and after a week of constantly designing I had 24 blocks.<br /> <br />When I was working on my y-front quilt, I found that by the end I was struggling to get more and different fabrics for it (35 blocks with 3 completely different fabrics in each). For my potion bottles, I took my time to find the fabrics. I printed out all of my patterns, went to Staples, and made all of my 5” blocks into 10” blocks. I got all of the 10” blocks done and put it away to work on at a later time, and just recently I finished my 5” blocks. I finished the two tops and sent them off to my favorite quilter, Shannon of <a href="http://rockcreekquilts.blogspot.com/">Rock Creek Quilts</a>.<br /> <br />I just got them back, so how about I quit talking and just show you the pictures? She did an amazing job and I’m simply blown away by how gorgeous it turned out. <3<br /><br /><center><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/6217826708/" title="A Trip to the Apothecary (smaller version) by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6229/6217826708_eff00d2b23.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="A Trip to the Apothecary (smaller version)"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/6217826552/" title="A Trip to the Apothecary (small and large) by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6151/6217826552_64df4ed6be.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="A Trip to the Apothecary (small and large)"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/6217306833/" title="Gorgeous Quilting Detail by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6059/6217306833_0932d87da0.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Gorgeous Quilting Detail"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/6217306627/" title="In the sun by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6034/6217306627_2bb3d07a5e.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="In the sun"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/6217306147/" title="Back of Small Quilt 1 by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6059/6217306147_4b24386553.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Back of Small Quilt 1"></a></center><br /> <br /> <br />I have all of the patterns for sale as a PDF in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/83300583/a-trip-to-the-apothecary-24-paper-pieced">my etsy shop</a>. Don't believe me? That's him talking on his phone without a care in the world. Chances are he probably flew up there. A year ago my dad started his own company and has done fantastic with it. Through his wonderful people skills and hard working attitude, he's turning his small company into something great. I am so proud of my dad. He's amazing.<br /><br />I wanted to make him something special for Father's Day. A few years ago we both worked for the same pool/screen enclosure company and he suggested I stitch on screen. I never did, but kept the idea in my head. When I started brainstorming what to get him, I immediately knew I had to cross stitch on screen.<br /><br />I came up with a general idea of what I wanted to do and asked my uncle, who works in the shop and office, if it would be possible for him to build a frame to put a cross stitch in. This weekend I spent lots and lots of hours trying to stitch as fast as possible so I could have it done by today.<br /><br /><center><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5850075819/" title="Father's Day Gift by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2705/5850075819_677bec7745.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Father's Day Gift"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5850626614/" title="Father's Day Gift Frame Detail by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3296/5850626614_eff2ef8db5.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Father's Day Gift Frame Detail"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5850626414/" title="Screening in the cross stitch by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5240/5850626414_f648997a1a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Screening in the cross stitch"></a><br /><i>John, one of the shop and office guys came over this morning to screen it in the frame</i></center><br /><br />I'm ridiculously happy with how it came out, and I think my dad liked it...<br /><br /><center><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5850074691/" title="Dad's Reaction by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5313/5850074691_f587666f0c.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Dad's Reaction"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5850074831/" title="Dad's Reaction 2 by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3206/5850074831_59008f0374.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Dad's Reaction 2"></a></center>Shaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03790672276299454901noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397741327715315043.post-77976301930249435232011-06-14T20:55:00.001-04:002011-06-14T20:57:25.513-04:00Talk to me Tuesday: Raised on Games<center><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/p1NkAweKPI8?rel=0&hd=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></center><br /><br /><ul><B><u>Things Mentioned</b></u><br /><li> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/">My flickr</a><br /><li> <a href="http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2011/06/craft_flickr_pool_weekly_round_136.html">On Craft</a><br /><li> <a href="http://wedinator.icanhascheezburger.com/2011/06/14/funny-wedding-photos-contra-classic-gaming-anniversary/">On Wedinator</a><br /></ul>Shaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03790672276299454901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397741327715315043.post-35482657107330052922011-06-02T06:11:00.001-04:002011-06-02T06:11:23.788-04:00Talk to me Tuesday: Yudu what you do<center><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/8PQb9iEewJ4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></center>Shaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03790672276299454901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397741327715315043.post-91463651004646497662011-05-24T23:16:00.000-04:002011-05-24T23:17:40.586-04:00Talk to me Tuesday: Not Much<center><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BhkvBZ9ugSs?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></center>Shaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03790672276299454901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397741327715315043.post-47469769933845839412011-05-18T22:23:00.003-04:002011-05-18T22:26:47.587-04:00Talk to me Tuesday: You're Nomming on my Neck<center><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aNwFGaNNP74?rel=0&hd=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></center><br /><br /><ul><u><B>Things Mentioned:</b></u><br /><li> <a href="">My flickr page</a><br /><li> <a href="http://stufflacimakes.blogspot.com/">Laci's Crochet Creations</a><br /><li> <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/OrangeBlossomCrafts?section_id=6479222">Laci's items on etsy</a></ul>Shaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03790672276299454901noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397741327715315043.post-55994160428704450102011-05-10T22:21:00.001-04:002011-05-10T22:22:30.731-04:00Talk to me Tuesday: Mischief Managed<center><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Q3VWz59bo70?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br /><br />And here's last week's video. Just a few minutes ago my dad brought a teeny tiny little bunny in his cupped hands (this is the second time we've had a <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/3943784205/in/photostream/">wild bunny</a> around, not to mention that bunnies are always running around at night). <br /><br /><center><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5524305284/" title="Bunny!! by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5016/5524305284_405d4aacab.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Bunny!!" /></a></center><br /><br />This bunny was different. He was the sweetest little bunny and didn't try to run away or anything. He wasn't scared (like the last one), and just stayed nice and calm even while we pet it. Obviously, we can't keep a wild bunny, so we took it out to the front yard (so the dogs won't get to it) and set it "loose" near some bushes in the front.<br /><br /><center><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5523713381/" title="Me holding the bunny by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5133/5523713381_fc3bf019c0.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Me holding the bunny" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5524305562/" title="Cute Bunny by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5258/5524305562_04d79dacd3.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Cute Bunny" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/5524305802/" title="Bunneh! by shaebay, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5012/5524305802_3424a13f25.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Bunneh!" /></a></center><br /><br /><br /><br />For more Florida wildlife (or rather, animals that have come into our yard/house), see <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaebay/sets/72157626134278109/detail/">this flickr set</a>Shaehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03790672276299454901noreply@blogger.com0
